She has many interests including poetry, church work, theatre, reading and community development. Her personal journey with pain and the challenges it brings propelled her on a journey of learning about the body, and about how we experience and deal with pain. This allows her to empathize with her clients while also fuelling her ongoing search for answers.
Joy has been a massage therapist since 1990. After completing her massage training, she continued exploring, learning, and utilizing a variety of other treatment modalities. At present, Karen works using a combination of CranioSacral Therapy, Integrative Manual Therapy, and Process Acupressure. Informed by her understanding of these modalities, Karen uses gentle techniques to offer a unique experience of body work, decreasing or eliminating pain, while increasing mobility and function.
One of the important aspects of Karen's work is teaching individuals to pay attention to their bodies, listening and tuning in to important messages. Karen believes that this is an underappreciated activity whose impact on health maintenance is underrated.
